UNIX was created in the late 1960s, in an effort to provide a multi-user, multi-tasking system for use by programmers. The philosophy behind the design of UNIX was to provide simple, yet powerful utilities that could be pieced together in a flexible manner to perform a wide variety of tasks.
Course Information
UNIX Introduction
Introduction to the main concepts of the Unix Operating System, most commonly used commands, command line wildcard and redirection facilities detailed, discussion on mechanisms by which a user acquires a login environment and introduction to Bourne and Korn Shells.
UNIX Shell Programming
Practical experience in developing and writing shell scripts. Most of the built-in Korn shell commands are introduced together with the main program control structures.
UNIX System Administration
Experience in the administration of an SVR4 compatible Unix System (generic course), differences between vendors’ implementations will be noted, practical work on the basic SVR4 commands underlying the vendor-specific administration menu systems.
SOLARIS System Administration - Part I
Hands-on experience in administration of system using Solaris up to version 9, Solaris commands required to administer system and GUI tools such as admintool and Solaris Management console.
AIX System Administration – Part I
Administration of an AIX System, AIX commands required to administer the system, practical work will concentrate on using the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT).
