Wednesday 17th March paved the way for our Blended Learners to gain a more in depth understanding of the transition into their first role within IT. This included an overview of the market, understanding their transferrable soft skills and it presented them with the opportunity to meet our Graduate Recruitment Team, to gain an insight into the types of exciting opportunities Just IT Recruitment have on board.
The candidates studying from home benefit from one to one support on the phone, by email and through Webex sessions and also 2 career support days at Just IT to make sure they are approaching the programme in the most efficient way.
In this career support day we had 10 people from around the country, all keen to move their careers and income forward.
We kicked off the day with an introduction and learning more about each other, including academics and employment history and what each person likes to do in their spare time. This gave the Graduate Recruitment Team a good understanding of the types of roles that each candidate will fit into. The second session of the day involved tailor making their CV’s to the IT industry, highlighting transferrable skills such as customer service, organization and interpersonal skills to name but a few. Candidates were given the opportunity to work on their CV, in order for the Recruitment Team to place them into opportunities as soon as possible.
All the excitement of the morning worked up an appetite! Lunch was provided by Just IT and was a fantastic opportunity to allow all of the Blended Learners to talk to the Recruitment Team, Career Support Team and the Technical Trainers in a relaxed informal setting.
The afternoon session involved understanding the types of work placements that the Recruitment Team have on board and how to answer typical interview questions. This was followed by an exam preparation workshop with one of the Technical Trainers which answered all technical queries and gave an insight into passing exams.
The day proved to be a success all round, with opportunities in the pipeline for candidates. It shows how people who want to study from home still benefit from one to one support from the trainers and from the recruitment team. The blended learning solution demonstrates a flexible way of getting into the IT industry if you can’t study from London full time.
