Network Engineer Apprentice

A global S&P500 corporate payments company are currently looking for a motivated and detail-oriented apprentice Network Engineer. You will assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining their organisation’s network infrastructure. You’ll work closely with senior engineers to troubleshoot issues, optimise network performance, and ensure seamless connectivity.

Key Duties

  • Network Configuration: Assist in configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
  • Security: Implement and maintain network security protocols, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to support network-related projects.
  • Support: Provide technical support to end-users and resolve network-related incidents.
  • Upgrades and Patches: Assist in network hardware and software upgrades and apply patches as needed.
  • Capacity Planning: Participate in capacity planning and scalability assessments.

About you

To be an Network Engineer Apprentice, you must be passionate about advanced IT with 5 GCSEs (ideally A* – C, 4-9) including Maths and English.

This 23-month Apprenticeship has a salary of £24,000 per year. You will also receive full training and support from the Just IT Apprenticeship team to increase your skills.

Your training will include gaining internationally recognised Level 4 in Network Engineering

Essential Skills

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Cisco or other network equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Entry-level experience in network administration or related roles.

Desirable skills 

  • Should have a basic understanding of the Microsoft operating system and IT networking
  • Customer care skills
  • Team working, or can demonstrate working in teams

Personal Qualities

  • An interest in computers and technology
  • Good time management
  • Can-do attitude and keen to learn
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
