Keeping Momentum after completing your Skills Bootcamp Programme

Completing a Skills Bootcamp is a big achievement, they’re fast-paced, intensive, and filled with new knowledge. Whether you trained in IT, Software or Digital Marketing the question many learners face afterwards remains the same… What do I do now I’ve finished, to keep the momentum going?

Skills Bootcamps are designed to fast-track you into employment or help you progress into a better role. Of course, upon completion you will add your skills and experience learnt from the Bootcamp to your CV and apply for jobs within the industry. But staying visible, confident, and connected in the job market takes a bit of strategy.

Here are our five top tips on making the most out of your qualification and turning your training into real opportunities:

1. Refresh your CV and LinkedIn immediately – Don’t wait… update your CV whilst the Bootcamp and training is fresh in your mind.

On your CV you can add:

  • The Skills Bootcamp you completed and the Provider name
  • The skills you gained and projects you completed using these skills – including links to portfolios and work examples where possible.
  • Tools and technologies you used, alongside accredited qualifications gained.

It is essential that you engage with the Progressions Team and attend their bespoke workshops. Just IT’s CV Workshop is specifically designed to get you noticed and teach you how to tailor your CV to each job role you are applying for!

On LinkedIn:

  • Publish a short post on LinkedIn announcing your completion, this can include a project or insight you gained from the programme.
  • Connect with your classmates and interact with each other’s posts.
  • Add your experience within your LinkedIn profile to showcase when you started and completed the Bootcamp.

The Progressions team run a Bi-Weekly LinkedIn workshop to help you develop your LinkedIn profile and get you noticed by connections!

2. Build or refine your portfolio

Examples of your work are key! And employers love to see this…

This can include screenshots of projects you worked on, data dashboards, design work and any written content that shows a new skill.

3. Stay connected with your cohort

You are all in the same boat and are now looking for the same opportunities… someone within your cohort may find a job within a tech company that is also hiring for multiple positions. Many jobs come from peer recommendations.

4. Practise your new skills every week

The best thing to do when you have learnt new skills is to continue to practise them, so the knowledge doesn’t fade. Examples of this can include building mini projects, revisiting your course notes, practising interview questions and even volunteering your skills to a friend or small business.

You can add most of the above to your portfolio too!

5. Explore Further Training
