FAQS

  • What is an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real job with training, allowing you to earn as you learn, gaining internationally recognised qualifications as you go. Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete and cover 1,500 job roles in a wide range of industries. Apprenticeships are open to anyone who is between the ages of 16 and 24, and not in full time education.

  • Am I eligible for an Apprenticeship?

There are some things to be aware of. You must be the minimum age of 16 to be eligible for an apprenticeship. For 16-18 year olds, apprenticeships are fully funded by the government. However, for 19-23 year olds apprenticeships are part government funded, meaning the employer will need to cover the rest of the cost.

You can apply before you have received your GCSE results, and we will contact you again once you have received them to discuss the next steps.

If you have previously completed a degree, unfortunately this will make you ineligible for the funding to train as an apprentice.

  • What will I earn as an apprentice and what are the costs?

The exact amount differs from employer to employer. The National Minimum Apprenticeship Wage was increased to £3.30 per hour as of 1st October 2015, but Just IT recommend a higher wage in London of £150-250 per week. We do however have some employers who will pay the London Living Wage which can mean an annual salary between £15-19,000

Your training is fully funded by the government so there are no costs to you.

  • What hours will I work and will I get paid holiday?

You will be working a minimum of 30 hours per week or a maximum of 40. The average working hours tends to be around 37.5. As an Apprentice you will be entitled to at least 20 paid days a year plus bank holidays.

  • What discounts can I get as an apprentice?

You can apply for the NUS Apprentice Extra card which will get you discount at a range of shops and restaurants throughout the whole year for £11.

Apprentices who live in a London Borough are also eligible to apply for an Apprentice Oyster card as long as they’re aged 18 or above, which will entitle you to 30% discount off tube travel and free bus travel.

  • Do you have safeguarding and equality policies?

Yes, Just IT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our apprentices. Just IT will be responsible for ensuring that all our employers are free from convictions, of sound character and judgment, and will not pose any threat or danger towards our apprentices during their placement.

Here at Just IT we follow these important procedures:

    • To promote equality and diversity throughout the work-based learning process
    • Have a written equality and diversity policy that staff, apprentices and employers understand and are committed to
    • Advise apprentices on equality, diversity issues and legislation
    • Explain to apprentices how they should treat other people
