It’s no secret that in the UK there are currently over 60,000 vacancies for Software Developers and not enough talent to fill them.
It’s not just Software Development roles that aren’t being filled. As well as more senior technical roles across Cyber Security, Data Analytics and Technical Architecture.
For Cyber Security alone, the Department for Culture Media & Sport estimate that there’s a shortfall of around 10,000 people a year – meaning that more needs to be done to attract and prepare workers for these industries.
Enter, Skills Bootcamps.
Skills Bootcamps – Part of the Government’s Plan for Jobs
Skills Bootcamps have been introduced across the UK to give people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer. Not only does this help people returning to work after losing their job during the pandemic, but it also gives young people an opportunity to get the skills that businesses all across the UK are crying out for.
The government has invested £2.5 billion in the National Skills Fund as part of the government’s Plan for Jobs, which have helped support the implementation of these bootcamps.
These free flexible courses of up to 16 weeks are available for adults aged 19 or over who are either in work or recently unemployed and living in England. Skills Bootcamps cover a vast range of proficiencies aimed at tackling skills gaps across all industries.
We currently offer both IT Technician & Software Development Skills Bootcamps.
These Skills Bootcamps prepare learners for entry-level roles across IT Support and Development, or a more senior apprenticeship pathway such as our Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship. They can also provide the foundation for more senior careers in the industry, including heavily in demand roles across Cyber Security, a field with an average salary of £62,500.
Our career support team will always be on hand to help you succeed. Their support ranges from employability skills that will help you nail your first interview, to more developed career guidance as you progress in the years to follow. The team will offer a range of sessions and workshops including exposure to real life scenarios like mock interviews – making Skills Bootcamps the perfect career transition for anyone without a Development or IT Support background.
Employer Engagement
Of course, the key aspect of Skills Bootcamps is the employer engagement. Using our established network of top employers in and around London, we are continuously evolving and improving the content of our Bootcamps, ensuring candidates are primed for the current junior roles available in the job market.
We are also progressing our Software Developer candidates to Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeships with both Large levy and SME clients. This means that our Bootcamps can act as a rapid launchpad to highly skilled technical apprenticeships, giving you a shortcut to a top role in Tech.
